4to, 287x220 mm. Contemporary binding on board. Portrait and 38 numbered plates, signed “A.C.IN.”. A total of 39 etching plates. Slight sign of wear and some stain on margins, good copy.
Beautiful and rare collection of plates, born as single sheets. This is the second edition of the Bellavia engravings, proposed by the publisher Monaldini as engravings by Annibale Carracci. Monaldini added the initials "A.C. IN." to all sheets. The collection opens with an alleged self-portrait of Carracci, which bears the title "Anibale Caracci dis. and inc. il suo Ritratto ": but it is a plate of an anonymous of the seventeenth-century with the illustration of the prophet Daniel painted by Raphael in the Chigi Chapel in Santa Maria della Pace in Rome. Bellavia must be considered the author of both the engraving and the drawing of each print. The titlepage is missing from this copy. The date is derived from the years of activity of the Monaldini.
