Oblong black cloth. 210 x 290 mm. Approx 39 post cards and 167 black and white photographs. Also included is Williams's original red and blue YMCA arm band, which she can be seen wearing in several of the photographs.



The personal photograph album of Eleanor W. Williams, who was a Secretary of the National War Work Council of the YMCA of the United States for service with the troops of the American Expeditionary Force in France.


The black and white photographs show volunteers doing Shurtteff Relief Work; Photographs of bombed out towns and areas to include The Hindenberg Line; Verdun; The Dariaruat; Soissons; Amiens; Reims; Marne; Fort La Pompelle; Fisyes; Chateau Thierry; Bras France; Fort Douaumont; The bombed out Red Cross Headquarters in Verdun; An American Cemetery at Belleau Wood; Pictures of "Big Bertha" a huge German gun that was captured; Picture of British tank captured by the Germans; German Machine Gun turrets and dug outs; A huge French gun that was captured; Two soldiers guarding a prisoner doing punitive work; &c. Further photographs of the July 14 Victory Parade in Paris in 1919, with General Joffre; General Pershing; Haig; Petain; Foch; all on horseback marching in the streets of Paris in triumph, &c.

Condition

White ink has scuffed a bit but is still legible; some shelf wear; some photos loose; overall very good.
