Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast (probably southern Alaska), Tlingit people, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A lovely basket comprised of tightly-woven reeds and grass fibers to form a cylindrical container. The vessel boasts a circular lid with two concentric horizontal stripes along the rim in red, and a minimalist motifs of boat and oarsmen motifs in brown and red hues along the body with two areas of abstract green-hued sea creatures in-between. The base of the basket is reinforced with thick brown strands which are woven in a lattice pattern. Size (w/ lid): 6.7" W x 3.5" H (17 cm x 8.9 cm).
