Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. An interesting standing figure with minimalist features, hand-carved from a mottled pale-green stone with dark inclusions. The obverse face displays abstract avian characteristics like slanted eyes, a triangular beak, delineated waist line, and a furrowed brow, all formed via the meticulous string-cutting method. The figure is biconically-drilled through the neck as well as from top to bottom for suspension. Custom museum-quality display stand included.
