Classical gilt and patinated bronze mantel clock with "bust a l'antique" of George Washington by Louis Mallet, circa 1820. Comprised of a plinth form base with gilt acanthus leaf and laural wreath mounts, white enamel dial having a gilt bezel with Roman numeral chapter ring and signed "Ls. Mallet/ H. DE M.D. D'Orleans/No. 1078", all surmounted by a patinated bronze bust of George Washington. 18 1/2" H x 7 5/8" W x 7 5/8" D. 19.8 lbs. Note: Mallet was clockmaker to the Duke of Orleans in Paris from the late 18th century until 1824 and carried the title of "Horloger de M. Le Duc d'Orleans". 4 small hairlines to dial area between "7" and "8", largest is 3/4" L; a few tiny dark spots of oxidation to lower front edge of bust (chest area), overall good condition. A couple of screws appear to be replaced in the clockworks.
