Ernest Beach Smith (Arizona/Florida/Michigan, 1893-1975) oil on board Southwestern landscape painting titled "Silence," depicting pueblo ruins, with the profile of a man visible in a red sandstone rock face; desert flora extending onto the frame. Signed and dated "Ernest Beach Smith 1963" lower right. Ink inscription reading "Homes of The Redman in Red Cliffs of Sedona/"Where to and Why?"/Ruins visited by The Artist/Feb. 19, 1963/previous callers/Billy The Kid/Bob Hope/Roy Rogers/Ernest Beach Smith/The Artist/Jerome, Arizona/(Born in Michigan 1893)". Two black stamps with Artist's name and address "P.O. Box 865 Jerome, Ariz", en verso of board and frame. Wooden placard with title of painting, affixed lower center of frame. Housed in a painted wooden frame with projecting corners. Sight - 26 1/4" H x 19 1/4" W. Framed - 22" H x 28 1/2" W. American, mid 20th century.
