Lot 0627 Details

Description
Group including 5 WWII era US Army Philippine War Crimes Trials patches -- the same court that convicted and executed; Tomoyuki Yamashita. Two bullion, two embroidered, and one standard. The two bullion patches have heavy bullion borders. One of the embroidered patches has a black silk back, with a Japanese or Philippine woodblock stamp signature in the center. The other embroidered patch has an OD Green backing and three circular stitch patterns were snaps have been removed -- similar to the snaps used on CBI patches; this one was likely made in China. One of the bullion patches has a hand-sewn white linen backing, the other, made on a felt base with cheesecloth material does not have backing. These patches come with a Visitor's ID card from the War Criminal Trials. It measures 3 1/2 " x 2 1/2" on think pink cardstock, it reads "VISITORS' SECURITY IDENTIFICATION" "WAR CRIMINAL TRIALS MANILA, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS" and on the reverse is handwritten "Office of the U.S. High Commissioner, Manila. Jan. 7th, 1946, War Crimes Trial of Lieut. General Masaharu Homma!" Homma commanded the Japanese 14th Army which invaded the Philippines and perpetrated the Bataan Death March. After the war, Homma was convicted of war crimes relating to the actions of troops under his direct command and executed by firing squad on April 3, 1946. Group also includes a Real Photo Post Card of General Yamashita arriving for trial at Manila, Philippine Islands, and an Associated Press photo of Yamashita arriving at the High Commissioner's Residece for the beginning of his trial. Measures 8 1/2" x 9 1/2" and has a newspaper clipping on the back as well. Excellent - Near Mint
