Early Chiwara Dance Antelope Headdress
From the Bambara, (Bamana) people of south Saharan Mali, an early Chiwara headpiece of antelope form, used for their agricultural success and appreciation dance. This example, unusually small, it has lots of use and lots of adornments.
Hammered and punch designed aluminum and brass cladding, twisted iron nose ring, tiny trade beads and red wool tufts adorn its aged wooden frame with natural patina. Nice condition, 23" high x 8.5" widest.
