Jean Metzinger 1883-1956 French Cubist PastelA well acclaimed artist, many collections and museums, this fine painting done in pencil and pastel chalks. The former owners gave the framer instructions, not wanting its un-even edges' showing. He matted right over.about a third of the painting including the lower border where it is signed. We'll remove it for the photo, and place it back. A very nice frame, it could be used for something smaller. A rather 'fun' picture, judging from a book on him, and from the paper, it is probably done around 1930. Of Cubist style, obviously a woman, it had become quite endearing over a few decades here, and will be missed, unless there is small or little interest, or, if getting it on the auction with a day to go, kills most chances for it to be seen or bid. In this particular case, I won't chance the small possible disaster, by setting a reserve with the auction house and if not bought, I'll offer it, as all others in the next sale here that I can participate in. 16.5" X 13 5/8"
