Antique American Cast Iron "Gothic" Pattern Bench, 19th c., scrolled foliate crest, canted scroll arms, C and S scrolled pierced seat, foliate cabriole legs, h. 35 in., w. 45 in., d. 17 in. Provenance: The Friedle-Garrison Collection, New Orleans. Note: The “Gothic” pattern was patented in England by the Carron Foundry in 1846 and was made in the U.S. by 1850. A bench and pair of chairs by Brown and Owen from the Crawford Collection of the High Museum is illustrated in Art & Enterprise. Similar “Gothic” pattern benches were made for the White House grounds in 1852, probably in New York.
