Partington: “(Scheffer) an essayer and technical chemist in Stockholm, (who) gave courses of lectures published by Bergman from notes taken in 1749,51 by Jonas Alstroemer..., a Stockholm merchant, with important additions by Bergman.†La seconda memoria venne scritta in risposta al concorso indetto dalla Societe Litteraire di Bruxelles nel 1771 sul metodo migliore e piu economico per la tintura in nero dei tessuti di lino e di altre fibre vegetali, ed e opera del medico belga di Anversa J. B. de Beunie. Important collection with three rare works on the dyeing of fabrics, a field in which in the eighteenth century chemical knowledge was making great progress in connection with the beginnings of the manufacturing revolution. The first memory is of a Swedish scholar. Partington: "(Scheffer) an essayer and technical chemist in Stockholm, (who) gave courses of lectures published by Bergman from notes taken in 1749,51 by Jonas Alstroemer ..., to Stockholm merchant, with important additions by Bergman." The second work was written in response to the competition organized by the Societe Litteraire de Bruxelles in 1771 on the best and most economical method for the black dyeing of linen fabrics and other vegetable fibers, and is the work of the Belgian physician of Antwerp JB de Beunie. The third work, similar to the second one, was written in response to the question of the Academie de Lyon on the black dyeing of silks, and in addition to the procedure proposed by the author, also that of Macquar used in Paris, and those used in Lyon and in Genoa.
