A VIETNAMESE / ANNAMESE BLUE AND WHITE GLAZED PORCELAIN EWER IN THE FORM OF A PHOENIX, SHIPWRECK CARGO, POSSIBLY 15TH/16TH CENTURY, the ewer with modeled phoenix head with open beak, fitted with a teardrop form cover for the filling spout, over thin neck which swells into the body with molded relief wings and talons at the sides, from the back the tail curls upward and attaches to the body forming the handle, at the front below the beak a pouring spout reinforced with a scroll support at the top, painted with feathers in cobalt with a cloud form on the front below the breast. Height: 11 1/2" Width: 7 1/4" Depth: 4 1/2"


In overall good, stable, excavated shipwreck condition, with areas of surface buildup and discoloration, marine encrustations, fine crackle to the glazing throughout, staining, surface is matt from long term marine water exposure.
