JACQUES DUBOIS (French 1694-1763) A LOUIS XV PERIOD GILT BRONZE MOUNTED KINGWOOD PARQUETRY VENEERED CARTONNIER AND STAND, PARIS, CIRCA 1745-1760, the sepentine bombé form cabinet raised on cabriolet legs with diamond parquetry inlay, framed with gilt bronze mounts and chutes, the interior divided into five open compartments fitted with five red morocco leather hinged papier-mâché shaped boxes with stamped gilt floral borders, each box with a label for Philippe-Alexis Ruffier, marchand papetier at the "A La Petite Vertu" on the rue Dauphine in Paris, raised on serpentine form base with matching parquetry veneer, each side fitted with a serpentine form hinged door opening to a divided cabinet with one shelf, with "C" scroll lock escutcheon and steel lock, the cabinet outlined with gilt bronze mounts along the horizontal edges, with chutes at the front corners and "C" scroll sabots on the cabriolet form legs, the front centered with a large rocaille scroll mount, oak secondary wood, stamped on the back of the stand "J DUBOIS" (twice). Height: 57 1/2" Width: 40" Depth: 13 1/2" NOTE: Very little is known of Philippe-Alexis Ruffier beyond his inclusion in lists of favored merchants by the prolific diarist Louis de Rouvroy, duc de Saint-Simon (French 1675-1755).
In overall fair restored condition; the gilt bronze mounts later replacements, some mild bends, cracks and wear to leather, some repairs, but overall in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
