26. The Wonderland Postage-Stamp Case, inscribed by Lewis Carroll. Dodgson, Charles Lutwidge (Lewis Carroll). (1832-1898) The Wonderland Postage-Stamp Case. [Oxford, Emberlin and Son,] 1889. 48mo. First Edition, first impression with the space above the cat on the outer case blank, and the space below bearing "Price One Shilling". The first impression was issued before the publication without the envelope and the pamphlet Eight or Nine Words. Four page card with pockets for 12 postage stamps (1/2 to 1 shilling) and housed in a pictorial linen-backed card slipcase. Inscribed in violet ink by Lewis Carroll along the lower center pages, "Miss Wordsworth, from the Inventor, May 1891". Elizabeth Wordsworth (1840-1932), great-niece of the poet William Wordsworth, was a prolific author of novels, poetry and religious articles and a pioneer of women's education. A rare Carroll item in fine condition. $1,000 – $1,500
