Description
An early cast iron stove signed "G.K. Kane - York Pa." with circular hearth, mounted on its original cast iron and hand forge iron base. Slightly rounded sides and front, each side decorated with floral panels. There are doors on each side that accesses an upper cooking/baking area, probably for pies or bread, and a lower firebox with front door. Also, the stove has a baffle system that allows the smoke to circulate around the baking chamber and up through the chimney. The unit is held together by hand forged iron pins attached through the corners. One 3" hairline in top extending from rim, 2 door hinges have been replaced with replicas, otherwise very good condition. The stove 24"D x 13 1/4"W x 21"H - the base 14"H x 13 1/2"W x 18 1/2"D. Probably late 18th to early 19th century. Provenance: Found in the barn of a 19th century Kinderhook NY family farm, name withheld by family.
