British or Irish school, 18th. cent. portrait oil on board in an Irish giltwood frame, depicting a gentleman wearing an ermine cape, robes of a peer and wearing the collar of the Order of the Garter. Thought to be Lord Chief Justice Kilwarden (Arthur Wolfe, 1739-1803). Panel approx. 15.5" x 12.375"; frame 21" x 17.0875" Provenance: From the Private Collection of Daniel Bibb, Atlanta, Georgia.

Condition

Previous repairs to vertical checks (splits), battens are not present; retouched and re-varnished; visible wear to frame with losses to gesso and gilt.
