FOUR GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC UNIFORM BUTTONS
Last Quarter 19th Century.The reverse unmarked. Comprising, two coat and two cuff buttons, all four with a gilt finish and embossed with the GAR monogram.

Cf. The Grand Army of the Republic was the preeminent veterans' organization formed at the end of the Civil War with the objective to promote, fraternity, charity, and loyalty. During the early 1890's, it's membership extended into more than 7000 national posts with 400,000 members. Most prominent U.S. politicians and individuals, if a veteran, became members of the GAR.
