  • Title/Content of Map: 1748 Robert de Vaugondy Map of North America -- Amerique Septentrionale
  • Date: 1748, Paris
  • Cartographer: G Robert de Vaugondy
  • Size: 6.3 X 7.8 in.

Thisa is a rather nice map of the North American continent. The British colonies are confined to the eastern seaboard and there is a very large Louisiane. The Ohio River is labeled R. des Ouabaches. The entire Northwest coast, above the peninsula of California, is un-chartered. There is an open-ended bay in Hudson Bay leaving open the possibility of the Northwest Passage. Details are shown as to topography, rivers, lakes at towns. Indian tribes are identified. The political boundaries are color-outlined. There is a simple title block.
