Titled "The Faithful Companion" is a watercolor on paper/board of a St. Bernard lying in the grass. Note his coat of soft browns & white. Signed "F.B. Townsend.; Frances B. Townsend (American, (1863-1916), born in Boston, studied in Florence, Italy & Julien Dupre in Paris. Awarded silver medal-Mass. Charitable Mechanics Centennial, 1895; gold medal-Atlanta Exposition., 1895. Listed: Davenport's, Who's Who in American Art. Her specialty was animals.
