(N) ICONIC GERMAN WORLD WAR II MG-42 MACHINE GUN ON MG3

Lot 1007 Details

Description
Gustloff manufactured MG-42 machine gun marked “M.U.” and “dfb” with Nazi proofs on receiver and other various places which indicates 1944 manufacture by Gustloff of Suhl. Other Nazi proof marks in evidence are “cof” (Eickhorn) on top cover, handgrip and feed tray, and “kls" (Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, Warsaw plant, Poland) on roller lock frame, “cyq" (Spreewerke, Berlin) on un-numbered barrel. Bipod is "dfb" Gustloff. Two wooden buttstocks are included. One butt is a great condition unmarked post-war replacement with reinforcement band. The other is also unmarked with thinning black paint and is quite likely pre-May 1945. Anti-aircraft flip-up post present at rear sight. Unmarked but correct pre-May 1945 vintage leather sling attached to gun. Consignor states gun and sling came from veteran who brought them back together. Many accessories are included with this lot. They are: post-war MG3 tripod with periscope and low-light optic accessory kit, MG-3 anti-aircraft tripod, MG-3 barrel carrier with .308 MG-3 barrel, MG-3 anti-aircraft clamp-on sight, two "European green" painted assault drums, one European green 8mm width sized ammo can with belt segments, one .308 width sized ammo can with belt segments, one Nazi original paint assault drum with belt segment, one MG-3 green Steyr manufacture butt, one late war, or perhaps early post-war unmarked wooden butt with buffer, one Finnish "SA" marked double barrel carrier, one spare barrel door, one spare Nazi marked charging handle, two spare mainsprings, two spare Nazi 8mm Spreewerke manufactured barrels (One is a REAL prize, chrome lined!), thirty five belt segments with at least two being Nazi marked, three starter tabs, four complete spare MG-3 bolts (one of the bolts very rare marked “H K”), a picatinny rail adapter to MG42 AA tripod, post-war MG-3 rubberized gun cover, and a post war hard plastic "10 compartment" gunners box with numerous smaller MG-3 spare parts, including, but not limited to: broken case extractor, extended booster cup, two MG-3 flash hiders and barrel bearings, 2 muzzle booster cups, one bolt head, one bolt body, one anti-bolt bounce assembly, two extractors, and numerous firing pins and ejectors. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is near excellent original finish with use revealing some gray patina at some high points and notably where the charging handle contacts the receiver. Barrels are fine to extremely fine exterior finish. This gun has exceptionally fine and tight rivets and the condition of the receiver indicates it has not been shot a great deal. Dark brown grips near excellent with some light handling marks. Sling very strong, supple and serviceable. Tripod and associated accessories near excellent. Bore barrel in gun is near excellent shiny and bright as also are spare barrels. Bolts are extremely fine overall. Mechanics are fine. This is a full auto only machine gun. This is truly an amazingly complete and well accessorized MG-42 machine gun which was the "State-of-the-art" general purpose German machine gun of World War II, and remained in service after the war for many years as the MG-3. Anybody who has watched World War II films, or been a member of the machine gun collecting community knows how impressive these guns are on the firing line. THIS IS A NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT ITEM AND REQUIRES BATF APPROVAL PRIOR TO TRANSFER. THIS ITEM IS FULLY TRANSFERABLE ON AN ATF FORM 3 OR 4 AS CURIO & RELIC ELIGIBLE.
