Lot 0011
Mark Rothko (American, 1903-1970) attributed: oil on canvas, signed and dated 1958 verso, framed.

Seeking a modern, mythic art and a more emotional connection to art, pioneers of the field, including Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, and Barnett Newman, independently discovered Color Field Painting to combat the mundanity of action painting. They filled their canvases with wide swaths of unadulterated color, creating a composition where the figure and ground meld together and expand over the traditional edges of the canvases, allowing the works to envelope the viewer and focus their attention inward.
41 1/2 x 53 1/2" frame
Provenance: Private collector, Peru.

Good aged condition, some wear/stretcher tear on left edge. Canvas is on a replacement stretcher. and was likely shipped rolled to its last owner.
NOTE:NOTE: If documentation is not listed, the lot is sold without documents.
