Notes: This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Fondation Dubuffet, no. 2019001, dated March 14, 2019 and signed by François Gibault. It will be included in the revised volume XXI of the catalogue raisonné, "L'Hourloupe II."
The present work is a study for the cover of the exhibition "Jean Dubuffet Drawings," held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, March 25 - April 30, 1966. The exhibition later traveled to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh (May 14 - June 4, 1966), the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester (June 11 - July 2, 1966) and the City Arts Gallery, Leeds (July 9-30, 1966).

Generally good condition. Light rippling to paper. Crescent handling crease in lower right corner, .75" long. Light deckling to edges consistent with technique. Brown paper tape residue along upper and lower verso edges from prior mounting. Adhesive residue along upper verso edge, likely by hand of artist with four areas of loss to paper not affecting recto image.
