Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful, cream-colored alabaster stone head of a woman, depicted with an elaborate coiffure piled atop her head and falling to her shoulders in two thick braids. The woman's face is naturalistic, with large eyes, a small nose, and a large mouth. She was once part of a larger statue, perhaps one commemorating a dead person or part of an altar inside a temple. The statue was likely once painted bright colors. Size: 1.95" W x 2.55" H (5 cm x 6.5 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.
