A beautiful late Chavin bone carving, c. 400 - 200 BC, in the form of a seated figure holding a serpent, head transforming into a mythological creature. The large circular eye with central greenstone inlay and the body covered with incised circles. H: 3 1/8 in (7.8 cm). A lovely piece! Traces of original pigment. Ex Robert Dowling Gallery, CA.
