A pleasing Michoacan Post-Classic chili grinder, West Mexico, c. AD 900 - 1200, the interior adorned with a 2/3 band containing 3 zoomorphic creatures in red & black resist over red-orange slip around the floor of the bowl which has been roughened by a sharp object. The exterior with a band containing crème wavy lines over a tan-gray slip; orange band above. H: 2 3/4 in (7 cm); Dia: 7 3/4 in (19.7 cm). A handsome example with light deposits, stable age crack.
