Description
SIGNED CDV OF LT. COL. ARTHUR CHARLES DUCAT - A great clear and sharp image of a casual but competent Ducat taken in Chicago by Hesler. It is signed on the back “Very Sincerely Your Friend Arthur C Ducat/ Lt. Col Inspector Genl / Stevenson Tenn / Aug 24th 1863.” He was born in Ireland and when war broke out was 31 years old and an insurance broker living in Springfield, Illinois. He was commissioned 1st Lt and Adjutant of the 12th Illinois 5/3/61, Captain of Co. A 8/1/61, major 9/24/61, lt. col. 4/1/62 and both Col. and Brigadier General by brevet 3/13/65. The regiment was a hard fighting unit, losing 3 officers and 142 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded. Ducat resigned in February 1864, but during his time with the regiment they fought at Fort Donelson, Shiloh and Corinth, suffering severe losses in each engagement. A great autographed Illinois CDV
