This is Number 1 to James R McAleer and signed by president McAleer. Jimmy McAleer was an American center fielder and manager. He was an outstanding outfielder who was blessed with excellent speed. According to some accounts, he was the first centerfielder to take his eyes off a fly ball, run to the spot where it fell to earth, and catch it. He was, however, a less steller hitter. Perhaps the most interesting part of this cert is the reverse. McAleer became a major owner of the Boston Red Sox in 1912. In 1913 he became involved in a dispute with the AL president, Ban Johnson, when McAleer forced the resignation of Red Sox manager Jake Stahl, one of Johnson's closest friends.By 1914 he parted ways with the Red Sox and sold all of his stock to Joseph Lannin ()not singed by Lannin.) . Lannin would go down in Boston history as the legendary owner who brought Babe Ruth to Boston. In 1912 the Red Sox had a .691 winning percentage in 1912 still stands as the best in team history, and their 105 wins stood as the club record for 106-years, until the 2018 club won 108. Cancelled in 1914 when the stock was re-issued to Lannin. Some light discoloration around edge, one fold rip s and a few small wrinkles. Overall in very nice condition. Ken Prag Collection
