Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec, ca. 1150 to 550 BCE. A beautiful, hand-carved celt of a verdant green hues with a rounded butt, smooth faces and sides, and a gently-flared blade edge. Celts like this example were typically used for ceremonial purposes and were oftentimes placed in tombs as grave offerings. Size: 5.75" L x 2" W (14.6 cm x 5.1 cm).
