Louis XVI-Style Mahogany Bureau Plat

late 19th century, the rectangular top with an inset leather writing surface, above a case fitted with a central drawer, flanked to either side by a deep drawer faced as two short drawers, raised on tapering square legs ending in brass caps.

In overall good condition, exhibiting shrinkage, blemishes, mars and wear to perimeter edges, most notably the legs and the top, and other normal indications of age and use. The brass exhibits some dents, dings, oxidation and losses to its top finish coat of clear lacquer or shellac. Sturdy, solid and stable. The inset leather top exhibits a number of stains, blemishes and scratches but no rips or tears noted. Locks are present; no key. One brass bail pull is detached but present. There is a veneer loss to the bracket below the central door, and a repaired break to that bracket on its other end. The bracket is somewhat loose. The front side exhibits similar wear and patina to the drawer side.
