Pair of Charming French Bronze Chenets

fourth quarter 19th century, with patinated bronze monkeys with gilt-bronze clothing, one playing a flute and the other a drum, resting on rococo-molded bases decorated with seashells and rocaille work.
h. 12-1/2", w. 11", d. 8-3/4"

Provenance: Collection of Leon Amar, Palm Beach, Florida.


In overall very good condition. The bolt on the base of the flute playing monkey is loose/stripped and needs to be secured and/or replaced. The flute is detached, but is firmly held in place by position of the hands. Both chenets exhibit light accretions (soot and dust) and oxidation.
