George III Hester Bateman Sterling Silver Cake Basket

hallmarked London, 1787-1788, of oval form with upswept ends, decorated with gadrooned rim and two concentric bright-cut and engraved bands, one leaf-and-dart, the other of floral swags and tassels, with reeded swing handle and raised on a conforming waisted foot-ring, engraved with the arms of Berche.
h. 4-1/2" (11-1/4" with handle), l. 14-3/4", w. 10-1/2"; 24.23 t. oz.

Condition

In very good condition with no issues noted beyond the expected minor surface wear commensurate with age and use. Nice, crisp engraving and armorial. Hallmarked (on the rim) with: 1) the London crowned leopard's head; 2) the sterling lion passant; 3) the date letter "m" for 1787-1788; 4) the George III bust duty mark; and 5) the "HB" maker's mark of Hester Bateman; marks good and legible. The handle part-marked with the lion passant only.
