A REPUBLIC OF TEXAS $500 BOND, issued at Austin on December 15, 1840, to Count Alphonse de Saligny, French ambassador to Texas, whose involvement in the "Pig War" has long provided a comic relief to the otherwise often tortured annals of Texas History, the bond is signed by de Saligny on reverse, height: 7.75", length: 10.00".

Condition

Faint crease lines, top corner folded tips, bottom left corner has small loss, side edges are generally in good shape with some tiny nicks here and there, paper has normal age browning in areas, some handwritten ink inscriptions have slightly faded with age, funding signature on reverse has partially bled through to the front, a few small ink drops, three triangular cancellation cut-outs of the ten at bottom and black printed areas are fairly strong.
