A fine looking Gent’s 18 carat yellow gold (750) Open Face Pocket Watch in good working condition.
The watch is hallmarked with 18 carat (750) English Chester Hallmarks and the date stamp for 1887. The case is maker marked J.S in an oval. It is likely Joseph Sharpe, of Coventry, although John Stuart trading as H Stuart & Co, case makers, Hope Street, Liverpool, also used the same stamp.
The hours are displayed in Roman numerals. The case opens to reveal a white enamel dial, with gilded hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and an outer minute track. There does not appear to be any damage to the face, which is protected by a clean, unscratched glass lens and gold bezel. The watch has a key-winding movement. The movement is protected by a shallow cylindrical dust cover, held on by a wishbone spring. The case is numbered 4213.
Unusually, there are no maker’s details on this fine quality watch. The suspension ring is probably a replacement as it is gold plated.
