Lot 0083
The exceptionally rare triple cased fusee by Thomas Lozano with gilt outer case, green enameled gold secondary case with elaborate painted plaque depicting a sailor's maiden leaning against an anchor watching her companions ship sail into the distance, and inner gold case housing the gorgeous gilt fusee movement with serial number 221. The enamel case with original paper label on the interior reading "Success to the Anson," believed to commemorate the launching of the 60 gun fourth rate vessel HMS Anson (1747). The watch presumed to have been owned by a high ranking officer or the ships admiral, further investigation warranted. Total weight 108 grams. The enameled gold case and inner gold case both testing for at least 18K gold and very slightly fading with a 22K gold test, the inner most case with London hallmarks and initials appearing to read "CA." Noted condition issues include scattered losses to the green border enameling, enamel case missing most of its case spring & hour hand spinning freely. Movement is untested due to lack of key but appears in excellent condition and upon close inspection the fusee chain and mechanisms all look in tact and in good condition. The outer gilt case latches tightly, the bow remains crisp. A real treasure and a rare opportunity to own a piece of Royal Navy and watchmaking history alike.
