Philly "African Church of St. Thomas" Lottery Ticket Ad
August 17, 1810-Dated. Lottery for the "African Church of St. Thomas" Newspaper Ad in THE FREEMANS JOURNAL AND Philadelphia Mercantile Advertiser, Published by William McCorkle, Choice Extremely Fine.
This original, crisp period newspaper measures 13" x 20.5" with 4 pages and is complete. There is a large front page advertisement for a Lottery to raise money for a "temple for Divine Worship" for the African Church of St. Thomas (directly related to the rare, issued Lottery Tickets). Much interesting national, local & foreign news. Of special interest is the printing of the lengthy letter from James Wilkinson, defending himself against the charges of treason in association with the plot of Aaron Burr. Several ads have great illustrations, including a Stage Coach, several sailing vessels, etc. A wonderful addition for Lottery Ticket collectors, specially relating to the historic "African Church of St. Thomas" of Philadelphia.
