Full 1782 Massachusetts 6% Revolutionary War Bond
January 1, 1782-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Partially-Printed Document, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 6% Interest-bearing Certificate, Anderson MA-31, Choice Extremely Fine.
Serial No. 1921, Partially-Printed, no cancel, 9" x 7.75". "Borrowed and received of William Collins the Sum of Six pounds Twelve Shillings 2 pence...", to be repaid by 1785 with Six per cent interest, Signed, "R. Cranch" as Committee member. This example having its full left Indent side margin paper fully intact and only partially completed after being started for William Collins, something was likely in error so it was thus left not completed and unissued. Huge margins, boldly printed and having excellent eye appeal. Blank certificates were signed by Thomas Dawes and Richard Cranch, who served as the committee to oversee the production and distribution of the certificates. At the time of issue the certificates were hand numbered, with the name of the soldier, the amount owned and the year for redemption written into blank spaces on the certificate. Completed certificates were then signed by the State Treasurer, Henry Gardner. When cashed the Treasurer's name was crossed out and the certificate was endorsed on the blank back. Scarce so nice and so complete.
