Detailed 1762 map of Asia from Jean Janvier's 'Atlas Moderne,' covering the region east of the Mediterranean Sea. Ports and islands are labeled along the coast, and inland areas are highly detailed with rivers, mountains, and settlements. In contrast, the far northwest areas appear fairly uncharted.Janvier was a successful cartographer active in Paris during the late 18th century. His maps were popular and widely published by prominent firms across Europe. Framed: 24" wd x 19" ht.


Provenance: The antique map collection of Glen F. Brown. Brown, an American geologist who mapped the Arabian peninsula and divined water where none was thought to exist, published more than 100 papers on the Arabian peninsula.
