⁂ The rare first English translation of the anonymous French edition of 1658. The work is divided into two parts, the first describing the natural history of the islands, the second the Caribs and their customs, religion and arts. At the end is a vocabulary of the Carib language. The preface includes an apology for the delay in publication caused by the plague lately raging in London.
