LOUDOUN CO., VIRGINIA PAINTED LADDER-BACK PAIR OF SIDE CHAIRS, with acorn finials, possibly original woven-splint seat, feet terminate in a simple ball foot. Retains an old black-painted surface. Attributed to John Mount (1799-1876) & Son or William T. Mount (1830-?), Waterford, VA. First half 19th century. 17 1/4" H seat, 35 1/2" HOA.
Very good overall condition with areas of expected usage wear.
Provenance: The Jack and Tommie Marsh collection, Columbia, SC.
Catalogue Note: Dr. Fred D. Johnson, Jr. does not document a stenciled-decorated chair by Mount, but notes the use of yellow paint to accentuate some chairs in this style, in his book "Nineteenth Century Loudoun County, Virginia Chair Manufacturing".
