AMERICAN PAINTED WOOD TOOL BOXES, LOT OF TWO, comprising a slide-top box having free-hand decoration with "TOOL BOX" painted in black, and one stenciled "GEORGE W. BURLINGTON, VT" with brass tacks. Each retains an old red-painted surface. 19th century. 6" H, 11 1/2" W, 7" D and 5 1/4" H, 12" W, 6 1/2" D.
Each with some losses and areas of expected usage wear; slide-top box lacking lid; other example with old replacements to hinges and handle detached but present.
Provenance: The Jack and Tommie Marsh collection, Columbia, SC.
