Description
BALTIMORE, MARYLAND DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, "3" gallon capacity mark, cylindrical form with squared rim, beaded neck, incised shoulder ring, and arched handles. Bold brushed cobalt vertical four-bloom two-stem floral decoration to both sides, additional cobalt at handle terminals connected by line beneath. Probably the pottery of Peter Herrmann (1825-1901). Second half 19th century. 13 1/4" H, 8 3/4" D rim.
Undamaged, except having flake to rim. Firing imperfections, including moderate separation on interior, as made.
Provenance: The Jack and Tommie Marsh collection, Columbia, SC.
