This is a representative example of a U.S. Colt Model 1873 Single Action Cavalry revolver as manufactured in 1874. This revolver is serial number 4633 (prime Custer battle serial range) and has matching serial number on the bottom of the frame, barrel under the ejector and trigger guard, and "633" is visible on the cylinder. . The top of the barrel has the single line slat letter address markings of "+COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.+", with the underside of the barrel is marked with a small "P" and part of an "A" is marked on the top of the backstrap. The left side of the frame patent marking is not visible and the "U" and part of the "S" are visible. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "888" and there are no other visible markings. The revolver is fitted with a one-piece walnut grip with small brass beads in the shape of a swastika on the right side and the ejector assembly has the early "Bulls-Eye" ejector rod head.

Good as modified, the barrel has been stretched. The ejector housing is secured with tape and all metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brown patina with the front 2 3/4" of the barrel cleaned and there is some minor pitting on the cylinder. The grips is undersized and loose with chips on each toe and heel with some heavy wear and a few scattered minor dings and dents. The barrel markings are readable. The action is fine.
