19th century, American; oil on board under glass; primitive portrait of Kingsley Mason (American, 1784-1855); half length portrait of a gentlemen wearing a black stock and coat. Unsigned. Approx. w. 46", w. 39.5"; panel. h. 33", w. 26.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Mrs. Sally Connally Hardie, Atlanta, Georgia. Connolly was a charity campaigner and philanthropist, Councilwoman for the National Trust for Scotland from 1978-1995 (the last ten years serving on the Executive board), and member of the Court of St. Andrews University from 1987-1995. A native Atlantan, Connolly's great-great-grandfather David Connally was one of the first settlers to obtain land in the city and her great-grandfather Joseph E. Brown was the governor of Georgia during the American Civil War.
