A hand-carved, antique wooden statue of a Roman Catholic Cardinal, depicted here wearing a scarlet-colored, three-pointed biretta, red and white robes, and holding a book. He is posed dynamically, with one hand to his chest, his robes flowing as if walking quickly. He stands on a low, square pedestal. Size: 5.5" W x 15.95" H (14 cm x 40.5 cm)

Extensive dark patina from age and handling gives this piece a distinctive look. The pigment has wear and some possible overpainting, especially the red. Small chips and losses from the surface, most notably on the front of the hat. Very old Italian label on the back of the pedestal.
