Ames Mexican War Sword Eagle Cross Guard

Lot 0002 Details

Description
A good example of a Mexican War period US officer's sword made by Ames. These are occasionally seen held by US and militia officers in period daguerreotypes. The blade is 32 inches long, double edged, with a spear point. The steel has been burnished bright. The etching is visible, but thus worn. The firm name, however, is clearly stamped on engraved brass scabbard. The scabbard shows an old professional repair near the lower carrying ring and a small dent just below that. The hilt consists of a knighthead pommel and wire bound mother of pearl grips. The crossguard is shaped as a spreadwinged eagle and the langets are American shields. The chainlink knuckleguard linked to pommel and crossguard is intact. This is a nice sword of the Mexican War period with patriotic motifs made by the most famous American sword maker.

Materials, Packing, and UPS Shipping on this item is $38.00. Insurance is $1.50 per hundred. UPS charges $5 for the signature required service. The insurance and signature service are optional, but there can be no insurance for theft or loss without the UPS “signature required” service. If you decline signature service and/or insurance and the neighbor kid steals the box off your porch after UPS leaves it.... or if UPS delivers it to the wrong address, or if the UPS truck crashes and burns… You are out of luck. I highly recommend the insurance and signature service.
