A late Victorian 18ct gold opal and diamond cluster ring. Of marquise-shape outline, the oval opal cabochon, with old-cut diamond surround. Estimated dimensions of opal 19.7 by 9.2 by 5mms. Estimated total diamond weight 1.50cts. Stamped 750. Ring size M1/2. Weight 7.2gms.


  • Overall condition good. Some surface scratches/wear in keeping with general age and wear.
  • One claw deficient to the opal setting.
  • Some glue residue visible to the opal setting.
  • Appears to have been recently polished.
  • Possible replacement band.
  • Band shows evidence of resizing.
  • Diamonds well matched.
  • Diamonds bright.

  • Individual size and setting of diamonds prevents accurate colour and clarity assessment.

  • Diamonds generally with minor inclusions under 10x magnification. Few with small nicks.
  • Opal has a whitish translucent to opaque body, with very good play-of-colour displaying a wide range of hues. Bright flashes of play of colour also visible to the reverse.

  • Opal in good condition with minor abrasions.

  • Stamped 750.
