1st-2nd century AD. A terracotta oil lamp with broad shoulder, volute scroll above the nozzle, lug handle, discus with low-relief stag on a rocky outcrop, underside stamped with the mark of a shoe. See Bémont, C. Lampes en Terre Cuite, Paris, 2007 for discussion. 56.9 grams, 10.5cm (4 1/4"). Property of a South London collector; previously acquired on the European art market 1970-1980.
