Partially printed passport document, finished by hand and signed by Thomas Jefferson (as President) and James Madison (as Secretary of State.) January 24, 1807. On laid with watermark, 20.5" x 16.75". Creased as previously folded, some very small holes along center crease, light marginal chipping, several (approx. 8) tape repairs to verso and one visible at front (upper left corner), a few older tape shadows to margins, overall clean with some light toning and a few small stains. ********************* A unique passport prepared for the captain of ship transporting ballast, signed by both Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The passport is cancelled with signatures struck through, though signatures remain legible. Text printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch.
