The film achieved critical and commercial success, being nominated for 14 Academy Awards, and winning 11 including the awards for Best Picture and Best Director. The film had an initial worldwide gross of over $1.84 billion, making it the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark. The film is the 2nd highest grossing film of all time, only falling behind Cameron's "Avatar" in 2010.
