This is the first official dated Trapdoor not listed as an Allin Conversion, yet it was still designed by him and uses leftover Civil War parts such as the 1863 dated Springfield lock, buttplate with no trap, and Allin style folding rear sight. Serial number on left side of barrel that matches number on left side of frame. Stock has light "ESA" cartouche stamp on left side. Still has two piece trigger guard. CONDITION: Barrel was finished in the white and is now a soft brown patina. The 1869 dated block is dull grey patina as are hammer and lockplate. Wood is very good with usual handling marks. Mirror bore with sharp rifling. An extremely nice example of an 1868 Springfield that was made from 1868-72. Comes with original period leather sling; single brass hook with two keepers and "US" stamped.
